This test was performed to compare the effects of a “Keto” friendly meal, compared to a non-Keto meal (the Papa John’s Pizza test). The results were very revealing. The recipe for the pizza can be found in the book by Dr Gerber’s and Ivor Cummins : Eat Rich, Live Long. A book I would highly recommend.
The Meal
The meal consisted of 4 slices of Keto friendly pizza, and 4 Keto friendly chocolate chip cookies. (simple double the pictures below)

Ratios
Reviewing the Ratios from this test:
Dr Boz Ratio:
The Dr Boz Ratio is a value taken from Dr Boz. Details of how the ratio is calculated can be found here. It is calculated using the formula Glucose / Keytone = Dr Boz Ratio.
Dr Boz Ratio | Effect | Autophagy Indicator |
Less than 80 | Weight Loss | Might Get Autophagy |
Less than 40 | Immune System | Solid chance of Autophagy |
Less than 20 | Cancer Fighting | Best chances for Autophagy |
For this meal, we can see that the Dr Boz ratio started well under the weight loss level, and then after the meal, dipped below 40 1 hour after the meal, and then recovered to below the level at the start of the test.
GKI Ratio:
The GKI Ratio is calculated using the formula here: (Glucose / 18) Keytone = GKI
GKI | What is means | Application |
<= 1 | Your’re in the highest therapeutic level of ketosis | Very difficult to acheive without doctor’s supervision. |
1-3 | You’re in a high therapeutic level of ketosis | For those using keto therapeutically for the treatment of diseases, such as cancer, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and chronic inflammatory disease. |
3-6 | You’re in moderate level ketosis. | For those with Type 2 diabetes and obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic or endocrine disorders. |
6-9 | You’re in a low level of ketosis | Ideal for weight loss and health maintenance |
>= 9 | You’re not in ketosis. | N/A |
From the GKI ratio, we can see before the test, I was in moderate level of ketosis, ideal for weight loss, but then 1 hour after the meal, it moved up to the high therapeutic level and stayed in that range for up to 12 hours afterwards.
Conclusion
Here we see no noticeable change in the glucose level, and the keytone level actually increased after eating this meal.
Compared to the Papa John’s pizza test, where the glucose level increased by a factor of 3 times, to above 180 and the keytone level dropped to below 1.0.
The take-aways from this test are:
- I can see I was in fat burning mode the whole time with this meal,
- for the Papa John’s pizza test, I was in fat storage mode for almost 12 hours after finishing the meal.
- This meal not only kept in me ketosis, but was actually beneficial from a keto point of view.
