I began my interest in Sugar/Keytone back in Jan 2019, when I was pushing 185lbs, and my wife sent me a link to a Dr. Berg video discussing “What is Insulin Resistance“, and another one, Understanding Insulin Resistance and What You can Do About It.. This was the first time I had heard that term, and naturally, since I was not diabetic, I did not think it applied to me. But I watched the video just the same.

In the video, Dr. Berg discussed what insulin resistance is, what causes it, and how to fix it. The other videos Dr Berg discusses Healthy Keto and what is Ketosis.

I then learned from Dr Jason Fung about the Calorie Deception, and then listened to Dr Robert Lustig’s talk on Is a Calorie a Calorie.

These videos were eye-opening to me.

All the causes applied to me. I would eat a high sugar/carb breakfast, I would have my “snack” at work at around 10am, I would have my high carb lunch, and then my “snack” at work around 2-3pm, and then my high carb dinner.

So I thought, I would apply the first recommendation from Dr. Berg, and simply cut out breakfast. That would be simple enough and I could see if there were any changes.

It was not too difficult to cut out breakfast. And then I noticed my weight start to drop, and rather quickly. By the end of Feb 2019, I was down to 170lbs. (something I had not achieved, in 20 years or so). This was achieved only by skipping breakfast. So I then thought I would start trying the Keto recommendation, which would be tougher for me. Bread was one of my favorite foods, and pasta was a close second.

Starting Keto sometime in March 2019, My weight began to fall even quicker:

March 2019 166 lbs
April 2019: 159 lbs
May 2019: 154 lbs
June 2019: 149 lbs
July 2019: 146 lbs
August 2019 140-145lbs

Here are the before (Dec 2018) and after (June 2019) pictures

By this point, none of my previous clothes fit, I have lost around 4 inches around my waist.

I remember in high school I weighed around 160lbs, so now I am well below my high school weight, something I never thought was possible.

I have since stabilized my weight around 140-145lbs, which feels good, and I have focused on increasing lean muscle as opposed to losing weight.
