Pasta used to be one of my favorite foods. Spaghetti, Lasagna, Tortellini, you name it, I love it!
But what effect does pasta have on my body, and for how long did it keep me in fat storage mode, (high insulin, low keytone)? These were some of the questions I wanted to answer with a meal of spaghetti and meat sauce.
(Unfortunately, no pictures were taken of the meal)
Date | Time | Glucose (mg/dl) | HCT % | Hb g/dl | Keytone | Dr Boz | GKI | Comments |
7/28/2019 | 5:30pm | 106 | 40 | 13.6 | Did not measure keytones before meal
8:30pm | 99 | 34 | 11.5 | 0.5 | 198.0 | 11 | 2 hrs after finishing the meal
7/29/2019 | 7:00am | 104 | 34 | 11.5 | 0.9 | 115.6 | 6.4 | 14hr after pasta |
Dr Boz Ratio:
The Dr Boz Ratio is a value taken from Dr Boz. Details of how the ratio is calculated can be found here. It is calculated using the formula Glucose / Keytone = Dr Boz Ratio.
Dr Boz Ratio | Effect | Autophagy Indicator |
Less than 80 | Weight Loss | Might Get Autophagy |
Less than 40 | Immune System | Solid chance of Autophagy |
Less than 20 | Cancer Fighting | Best chances for Autophagy |
For this meal, I did not take the keytone reading before the meal. But we can see 1 hours after finishing the meal, the Dr Boz ratio was through the roof, well out of any beneficial range. And even the following morning, it was still well above 100. There was zero chance of having any benefits of Autophagy from this meal.
GKI Ratio:
The GKI Ratio is calculated using the formula here: (Glucose / 18) Keytone = GKI
GKI | What is means | Application |
<= 1 | Your’re in the highest therapeutic level of ketosis | Very difficult to acheive without doctor’s supervision. |
1-3 | You’re in a high therapeutic level of ketosis | For those using keto therapeutically for the treatment of diseases, such as cancer, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and chronic inflammatory disease. |
3-6 | You’re in moderate level ketosis. | For those with Type 2 diabetes and obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic or endocrine disorders. |
6-9 | You’re in a low level of ketosis | Ideal for weight loss and health maintenance |
>= 9 | You’re not in ketosis. | N/A |
From the GKI ratio, was also well above the range of being in Ketosis after the meal. Even the following morning, I was well out of the ketosis range.
Conclusion
From this test, I can see that
- 14 hours after the pasta meal, my keytone levels had just started to rise, they were still very low.
- I had been in fat storage mode throughout the night,
- and probably would continue in fat storage mode for a while.
I did not have breakfast in the morning, but if I had, the breakfast would have kept me in fat storage mode, probably until lunch time, and then lunch would have kept me in fat storage mode until dinner time again.
This opened my eyes and I realized that for most people, who have 3 meals a day, with snacks in between, their insulin levels are probably always elevated, and their bodies are probably in fat storage mode all the time. They never give their bodies a rest and a chance to burn the fat (produce keytones).
